Hingham Harbor Dredge Project

Dear Stakeholder:

This communication is in regards to the planned maintenance dredging of the Inner Harbor Mooring Basin (“Mooring Basin”) this fall. On August 23, 2019, the Town of Hingham received three bids from contractors. The bid submitted by Cashman Dredging & Marine Contracting Co., LLC. in the amount of $2,824,925.00 for this project was accepted.

Dredging and its related activities will begin as early as October 1, 2019, and the Town of Hingham MUST have the Mooring Basin free of all moored boats, moorings, or other objects prior to October 1. To meet this deadline all permit holders are strongly encouraged to schedule a haul date well in advance of October 1, to allow their mooring service provider to remove their mooring well before October 1. Permit holders are responsible for scheduling the timely removal of their boat and mooring.

All stakeholders in the Mooring Basin MUST be aware of the following and plan accordingly.

  • Boats MUST be removed from the Mooring Basin before October 1, 2019. Boats in marinas should confirm with their marina when to vacate their slip, as this vacate date may be different.
  • All moorings MUST be removed from the Mooring Basin by October 1, 2019.
  • Town Pier floats will be removed from the water by September 27, 2019.
  • Navigation in the Mooring Basin will be restricted due to dredging operations beginning October 1, 2019.

We anticipate dredging will require the entire dredging window, October 1 to January 31, to restore the Mooring Basin to its engineered depth. It is important to have the Mooring Basin clear for the contractor to complete the project on time. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation and will keep you informed as the project moves forward.

 Best Regards,
