Three Face Charges After Brief Pursuit With Stolen Car

Hingham, MA – Three men face charges after an Officer located a stolen car traveling on Main Street Thursday morning. The driver did not pull over and led Officers on a brief pursuit before losing control and crashing into a tree.

On Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 1:26am K9 Officer Ryan Ross was monitoring traffic on Main Street (Route 228) and conducted a registration computer check on a 2013 Hyundai Sonata that was traveling south on Main Street and found it was stolen. The car had been reported stolen in Worcester several hours earlier. He followed it and coordinated with other Officers nearby. He then signaled it to pull over on Main St. The car pulled to the right side of the road briefly before speeding away. An Officer ahead attempted to set up a tire deflation device across the road but the car speed up to quickly.

The car continued south on Main Street crossing into the oncoming lane and reaching speeds of up to 85 mph in the 35- 40 mph area. The road was dry and traffic was very light. Near 1139 Main Street the car drove off to the right side of the road, struck a tree, and came to a stop in the middle of the road.

The driver stepped out and was arrested without incident. The two passengers were also able to get out of the car on their own. All three were transported to South Shore Hospital by ambulances with non-incapacitating injuries. They were treated and released.

The driver was then booked at the Hingham Police Station. Arrested was Luis Soto-Perez, age 19, of 35 Laurel Street, Apt. 14, Worcester, MA. He was charged with: 1) Larceny of a Motor Vehicle 2) Operating to Endanger 3) Malicious or Wanton Destruction of Property (the car) 4) Unlicensed Operation 5) Failure to Stop for Police 6) Marked Lanes Violation 7) Speeding. He was arraigned March 2 at Hingham District Court and ordered held on $500.00 bail. He will return to court March 21, 2017.

The two passengers, 18 and 19 year men from Worcester, were not arrested at the scene. After further investigation, they are both being summonsed to Hingham District Court on charges of Using a Motor Vehicle Without Authority and Receiving a Stolen Motor Vehicle.
