Third Offense Drunk Driving Arrest After Daytime Traffic Stop

Hingham, MA – A Scituate man was arrested on repeat drunk driving charges after initially not pulling over for police Thursday afternoon.  

On September 10, 2020 at 3pm an Officer was on Free St. in response to neighborhood complaints of speeding when a car passed him at 48 mph in a 30 mph zone. The driver did not pull over despite the cruiser behind him with lights and siren on. The car continued onto Union St. crossing over the center line 4 times. It continued past Wompatuck State Park and Hingham High School. It drove past a stop sign at the intersection of Union, Pleasant and Middle Streets without stopping. It slowed to 20-30 mph and continued on Middle St. The Officer was able to pull beside the car and it stopped on Middle St.  

The driver had bloodshot and glassy eyes and smelled of an alcoholic beverage. He was unsteady on his feet and swayed while standing. After a series of field sobriety tests he was arrested.

Arrested was David S. McLean, age 43, of 145 Captain Peirce Road, Scituate, MA. He was charged with: 1) Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol (3rd Offense) 2) Negligent Operation 3) Failure to Stop for Police 4) Marked Lanes Violation 5) Stop Sign Violation. The 3rd offense is based on offenses in 2017 and 1995.

He was booked at the police station and released on personal recognizance to appear at Hingham District Court for arraignment on September 11, 2020. Contact P.I.O. Sgt. Steven Dearth
