[ARCHIVED] Phone Calls About Gun Prompt High School Lockdown

Two phone calls claiming a student had a firearm in the school led to a lockdown at Hingham High School today. After a search, no firearms were found, and police believe the calls were not credible.

On Monday, October 1, 2018 around 9am the Hingham High School Principal and the South Shore Regional Emergency Communications Center (which provides dispatch services for the Hingham Police) each received phone calls from a person who claimed a student was in possession of a gun and may use it in the school. The school went into lockdown and numerous police officers responded to the school.

The school was searched and no firearms were found. Assisting at the scene were Quincy Police K9 and Norwell Police. The lockdown ended shortly after 11am and classes resumed.

The Hingham Police Department has five full-time School Resource Officers, one who is assigned to Hingham High School. This incident remains under investigation. If you have any information about this incident, please contact Detectives at 781-741-1443. You can also leave an anonymous tip on our home page www.hpd.org. Contact PIO Sgt. Steven Dearth
